That managed to answer several questions while also answering absolutely none of them. This carries a strong implication that the recorders belong to the Web, which... actually, if you think about it, while we've only heard a fraction of Gertrude's tapes, almost all of her tapes were recorded deliberately. The tape recorders did not typically stalk Gertrude, and if she hadn't been trying to leave Sasha an explanation there might not have been many tapes at all. We know that there's some connection between the recorders and the Beholding because we've seen the Eye do things with them and Jon develops a physical dependence on them that Jonah was unsurprised by, which implies he knows.
And despite the Web having a prior claim, his connection to the Eye was so much stronger that I don't think the Web could have been shoving him to and from specific tapes at the time we saw that happening. (Though if this has been the Web's plan all along it does have reason to not want Jon listening to Eric Delano's statement.)
I am wondering, though, if this ends with them either manipulated into destroying the entire multiverse in much the way they were manipulated into destroying the world or sending the Powers off to go torment another world that isn't theirs.
It's cosmic horror, after all, and Jonny has said no one's going to be all right in the end. It would be entirely in-character for Jonny to end this on the multiverse version of what season 4 ended on and just have that be the ending.
