Magnus Archives: In Which I Really Should Check the Content Warnings
Given the nightmares I was having last night I really *should* have checked the content warnings, but I'm so used to the show not hitting any of my deep fears. Of course, I'm also used to my normal fears being primarily related to domestic violence, which is a subject Jonny has blanket stated the show isn't going to touch on-- I'm used to this being a show where I don't even have to think about the possibility of it setting me off.
Then again, I'm not sure I'd have realized what was going on even *with* content warnings, which is one of the reasons I roll my eyes so much at the "The world must be sanded down to avoid ever accidentally touching anyone off! crowd" on Tumblr. Sometimes you're just going to encounter things that set you off unexpectedly and it can't be helped. In this particular instance, the pandemic and my apartment-hunting issues have apparently turned into a lot of fears of home loss, and while I've never lived in an apartment that was necessarily *unsafe*, I have certainly lived in places that were falling down around me and that I was afraid of. So when you get to an episode that primarily centers on burning apartments, my principal reaction is panic. I mean, I listened to it, the whole way through, but I'm not sure that was necessarily a wise choice.
This does give us confirmation that killing the avatars doesn't do anything to help the trapped, though! That being said, I don't have too much in the way of moral qualms about the decision to go after Jude Perry; she's one of the avatars who made very deliberate choices. Jon wanting vengeance is something that should maybe be watched in case he starts to slide, but it's not unreasonable to want her dead. She *likes* torturing people. For her this is *fun*, not something to be resigned to. I really do not understand Jude Perry-- like, I can generally predict her actions, but I have a lot trouble visualizing what the internal narrative is like for someone who really just mostly wants to burn stuff down.
(On a completely different note, today's forays into fanfic gave me a moment of "Magnus Archives: the fandom where something being tagged 'canon-typical worms' makes perfect sense to me.")
